Disabled Outdoorsmen

Disabled Outdoorsmen USA (DOUSA) is a nonprofit with a mission to help individuals with disabilities reconnect with the healing power of nature. While their cause was strong, their website didn’t reflect the heart behind the organization—or the impact it was making.

The Challenge

The original site was sparse in content, lacked emotional resonance, and didn’t communicate the depth of DOUSA’s mission. It wasn’t difficult to navigate because there wasn’t much there. But, it was frustrating for users who wanted more information, explanations, and access to the community. The website failed to convey the professionalism and passion that drives their work.

The Solution

Working closely with DOUSA, Shannon Communications, and One Dog Solutions, we completely redesigned the site to highlight their community, credibility, and emotional impact. Key improvements included:

  • Emotional storytelling through video: I watched every testimonial video and designed a layout that gives these powerful stories the spotlight they deserve. They’re now central to the user experience.
  • Expanded content: With newly developed copy, we were able to convey the “why” behind DOUSA’s work—covering mental health, accessibility, and the power of the outdoors.
  • Clear pathways for action: Whether users want to donate, volunteer, apply, or start a chapter, the new site makes it easy.
  • Scalability: Built to grow, the site now supports more chapters, future events, and expanding resources—all while staying on-brand.
  • Professionalism and warmth: The design strikes a balance between rugged and refined, mirroring DOUSA’s identity as a tough, heart-centered organization.

The Impact

The new website brings Disabled Outdoorsmen’s mission to life. It’s emotionally engaging, structurally sound, and built to scale—ready to support their growth and inspire action.
