Beaver Builder, Meet Shannon
A behind-the-scenes look at the new website for Shannon Communications—blending bold visuals, thoughtful collaboration, and a few Beaver Builder tricks.
I’ve been deep in the design and development of a new site for Shannon Communications, a branding and communications consultancy based right here in San Antonio. This project has been more than just a website build—it’s been an opportunity to reflect both Shannon’s brand and my own creative evolution.
What makes this site special is the way it blends what Shannon stands for—collaboration, clarity, and purpose—with everything I love about design: thoughtful strategy, compelling storytelling, and clean, adaptable user experiences. While the business bears her name, Shannon Hernandez was clear from the start: she didn’t want the site to be all about her. She wanted to emphasize her collaborators just as much as her own expertise.
The “problem”? She had stunning photos by Paul Alanis that absolutely deserved to be front and center. So, the challenge became how to balance highlighting Shannon while also giving space to the creatives she works with. That led to one of my favorite homepage features—blog posts with contributor photos right next to their bylines. A simple tweak, but one that says so much about shared credit and creative community.
Of course, getting that feature to work exactly the way I envisioned it wasn’t straightforward. I hit a wall trying to make Beaver Builder (my go-to page builder) display author photos dynamically. So, I turned to one of my favorite problem-solving places: the Beaver Builder Facebook group. I shared what I’d tried, posted a link, and within hours had a handful of suggestions—one of which cracked the code.
That post continued getting love and comments, including one with a link to a Beaver Builder showcase video. I clicked through, and to my surprise and total delight, ShannonComms.com made the cut! You can see it around the 4:10 mark in the video.
The site isn’t done yet, but it’s already making an impression. I’ve added a few screenshots below for those curious to see how it’s evolving as of February 26, 2022.
The Facebook group post continued to get comments, including a comment with a link to a Beaver Builder video showcasing sites built with the plugin. I always love seeing what people do with the very same tools I use. The video didn’t disappoint. The first site featured was the Louder Agency. It was such a great looking site that I was hooked. About four minutes into it, I saw a familiar site.
Of course, it’s not done yet. I have some screenshots below the video to show the changes.
For those who watched and are curious to see the updates as of Feb. 26, 2022, see below.
